Borowitz: America Less Safe With Palin No Longer Keeping Eye on Russia

Funny ha ha from Andy Borowitz:

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin said today that America was less safe now that she was no longer keeping an eye on Russia, but added that she hoped other Alaskans would step up to fill the security void she has left.

"What with me being out and about trying to progress the agenda of so many Americans out there, it's not possible for me to be seeing when Putin's rearing his head like I used to be doing," she said.

She urged fellow residents of her hometown, Wasilla, to keep an eye out for the suspicious activities of any Russians they might see from their front porches.

The Two (Racist) Faces of Glenn Beck

UPDATE I:

MSNBC's Donnie Deutsch Calls for Glenn Beck Adverstiser Boycott - UPDATED w/Contact Info
(From DKos aggregatescience):

MSNBC's Donnie Deutsch just called (on air!) for advertisers to boycott Glenn Beck for his "Obama is a racist" screed on Fox (faux) News, after Fox News refused to take responsibility for Beck on their station (they said he was entitled to his opinion...).

From Deutsch:

"He called this president a 'racist' and a 'hatred of white people', okay? This has to stop. Here's the only way this stops. The reason this man does this, this Glenn Beck does this, is because it attracts viewers, it creates controversy."

On the February 12 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Glenn Beck featured Philadelphia-based conservative radio host Dom Giordano, who claimed that "the mainstream media has dubbed [Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL)] to be African-American" and said, "If you start to, you know, delve around the edges, say, 'Wait a minute, isn't he mixed race? Weren't we told that last year?' Or whatever, biracial. Not allowed to say that anymore." Beck responded by saying "he's very white in many ways," adding, "Gee, can I even say that? Can I even say that without somebody else starting a campaign saying, 'What does he mean, "He's very white?" ' He is. He's very white."

Shuster Responds To My Post On Page Six Hit Piece & HuffPo Promotion of It

Yesterday, I emailed David a link to my piece, HuffPo "Media" Editor Daniel Shea Regurgitated "Page Six" Gossip (Lies) About MSNBC’S David Shuster As News (Facts), which as you might recall, ripped the HuffPost editor for reprinting a NY Post fictional gossip piece on David's "bald spot."

Huff Post "media" editor, Danny Shea, reprinted a piece of unsubstantiated gossip from Page Six on the site earlier today -- which is undoubtedly more made up bullshit like so some many things related to MSNBC/NBC over are at Murdock's personal attack machine.

It's mind boggling that this kind of crap - which is certainly expected over at Politico & Drudge - makes it way onto a site that is supposed to be building up progressive media, not tearing it down.
Here was David's response to my email, which he asked me to hold off on posting until today:
Hey Joshua,

Thanks for this... I am indeed on vacation up at big sur and am amazed at this nutty story back east. I have never in my life complained about how I've been shot or framed...nor do I have any problem with the bald spot on my head or it showing up on tv. Everybody who knows me and works with me will appreciate how totally absurd this story is. The ny post is out of control... I'm sorry to hear huffpost picked up on this non sense as well. So it goes.
Now, here is David's response to Danny Shea himself, which to Shea's credit, he reprinted on HuffPo in full:

David Shuster flatly denies the Page Six item alleging that he "went crazy" after the "Countdown" camera crew filmed him from behind and exposed his bald spot.

His full e-mail is printed below, with his permission:

Danny,

Never in my career have I ever been a diva or complained about how I've been shot or framed. Ask any director or producer who has actually ever worked with me. I'm the guy who is happy to do anything and NEVER complains, ever.

The ny post/page 6 allegation is a complete and utter fabrication. I have no issues with my hair or the spot on my head where I lack some. I have never complained or been concerned about being shot from behind. (We use the plasma shot nearly every show.)And, I don't "go crazy" or have "meltdowns" over anything.

I can't even think of any incident in recent weeks where I complained about anything and might have been misconstrued.

I can easily imagine however, why the ny post would make things up out of whole cloth. But, I'll leave that story to you.

Please give my denial as much space on huffpost as you gave to page 6.

Thanks
Shuster

House Democrats Look Secure in 2010 Midterm Elections

Things are looking just fine for Democrats for the 2010 midterm elections.

From Yahoo & CQ Politics:

As they gear up for the 2010 midterm elections, Democrats appear secure in their House majority they won with a big gain in 2006 and reinforced with another advance in 2008.

CQ Politics' election analysts found 100 congressional districts with races where either major party stands a chance of winning the seat. That includes three true tossup seats, many districts that are only slightly competitive and some highly competitive. Of the 100 races worth closely watching, Democrats are defending 59 of the seats.

[snip]

While at least some net gain is a very plausible possibility for the Republicans, it would take a huge reversal of political fortune for the party to reclaim a House majority. Of the 335 contests that CQ Politics' election analysts rate as Safe for the incumbent party, 198 are currently Democratic (including that one vacant seat) and just 137 are Republican.

In addition, the Democrats are solidly favored in 31 of the 59 competitive contests for seats they currently hold, plus the Republican seat in Louisiana's 2nd District. So if the Democrats were to win only their Safe seats and those rated Democrat Favored, they would have a total of 230 -- well above the majority threshold of 218 seats.

HuffPo "Media" Editor Daniel Shea Regurgitates "Page Six" Gossip (Lies) About MSNBC’S David Shuster As News (Facts)

Here's his piece (of Murdock's meme):

Tuesday's New York Post quotes a source saying that David Shuster, who was filling in last week as guest host of MSNBC's "Countdown," reportedly "went crazy" after the primetime MSNBC camera crew shot him from behind and exposed his bald spot (his regular daytime crew reportedly knows not to do so).

"David went crazy when he filled in for Keith Olbermann last week and was shot from behind, exposing his bald spot," the source, close to production, told Page Six. "He went crazy and is so upset about it, he's thinking about getting a rug."

MSNBC had no comment to Page Six, which has routinely printed negative things about its on-air talent. A rep for the network did deny the story to the Huffington Post, but a careful analysis of Shuster's "Countdown" clips shows that on Monday, July 20, during a segment on detainee treatment, Shuster was filmed from behind, exposing a bald spot atop his head:

He then goes on to provide video as if that was proof the incident happened.

When I tried to leave this comment of the thread of this cut & paste masterpiece of journalism by Shea, it was rejected:
Hey Danny Shea -

Do you consider regurgitating PAGE SIX 'gossip' as news, worthy of HuffPo?

Really?

Without ANY explanation about the long history of PAGE SIX making shit up about MSNBC, Olbermann, Chris Matthews and now David Shuster (on behalf of Murdock & Fox "news")?

Really?

Hopefully this pathetic post will be removed soon by the powers that be.
I tried five or six times, but to no avail. It's one thing to reject a comment that spread false info, links to hate or conspiracy websites, but to reject a comment like this?

Danny Shea doesn't deserve to be an editor if all he's going to do is spread unsubstantiated rumors/gossip as if this were The Telephone Hour in Bye, Bye Birdie.

Tweet @DanielShea and tell him what you think, after leaving comments of your own on the article's thread of course.

Then, tell HuffPo what you think of their site being turned into an outlet for right-wing talking points, rumors and lies.

UPDATE:

House Passes Resolution Declaing That Obama Was Born In Hawaii, 378-0.

Just in case you missed it, the House voted UNANIMOUSLY on a resolution to celebrate Hawaii's 50th B'day that included the declaration, “Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii.”

So much for the 'birthers' in congress - as all who were present, an voted, all vote in favor for the resolution well. So they were full of shit all along and their collegues, the ones who didn't vote at all - are blithering cowards for not getting right up their and voting against the resoution and standing behind their lunacy.

From Think Progress:

This evening, the House passed a resolution sponsored by Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-HI) that commemorates Hawaii’s 50th anniversary as a U.S. state by a vote of 378-0. The resolution also contains this provision: “Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii,” a measure that some GOP members may have had trouble supporting. However, many of the Republican representatives who at expressed at least subtle doubt that Obama was not born in the U.S. voted for the resolution. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), who had earlier in the day prevented the resolution from coming to a voice vote on the House floor, and Rep. Bill Posey (R-FL), who sponsored a bill requiring presidential candidates to prove natural-born citizenship, both voted for the resolution. Rep. John Campbell (R-CA), a co-sponsor of Posey’s bill who expressed doubt about Obama’s citizenship last week on MSNBC, did not vote.

Numerous Media Figures Take CNN's Dobbs to Task For "Birther" Craziness

Figures from all corners of the media world -- from both conservative and liberal sides of the equation -- are criticizing CNN's Lou Dobbs for his birther lunacy. Here a just a couple of the first examples compiled by Media Matters. Click over to see the full list.

From Media Matters:

In recent days, as Media Matters for America has noted, CNN host Lou Dobbs has promoted the fringe notion -- labeled a "conspiracy theory" by his own CNN colleagues -- that President Obama has failed to produce a valid birth certificate. Numerous journalists and other media figures have subsequently criticized Dobbs for giving "credence," "legitimacy," and a "platform" to such theories. Media figures criticizing Dobbs run the gamut from conservative to liberal, local to national, and television to print and Internet:
  • In a July 24 post, washingtonpost.com senior producer Mike McPhate wrote:

Despite a widely circulated copy of his certificate of live birth, notices in two Honolulu newspapers, and other evidence, some won't let the issue die. Fanning the flame are commentators Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh, who have both suggested the question remains unresolved, and 10 House Republicans, who have co-sponsored a bill that would require presidential candidates to provide a copy of their original birth certificate.

David Frum v Ann Coulter v Bay Buchanan. Oh, my.

Could there be anything more exciting than watching the nutter turns on each other over Sarah you betcha Palin on live teevee?

From the CBS Early Show:

Sarah Palin resigns her office tomorrow. GOP commentator, Ann Coulter, Republican strategist, Bay Buchanan, and author David Frum speak with Erica Hill about some questions surrounding Palin.

Coulter: "She's up there, she's had 17, 18 ethics complaints filed against her. Everybody wants her to speak for them, everybody wants to attack her, and she has her hands tied behind her back because she has to be governor, not only in terms of fund-raising (for other GOP candidates and herself). ... She's too big to be stuck in a governor's office up in Alaska."

Frum: "Michael Jackson is also a bigger story than the president of the United States, but the American people aren't going to vote for him....Look, she's 45 years old, she's been the governor of a state; if she hasn't got the expertise, she's never going to get it.

"Basically, quitting for the stated reason that you can't get anything done in your job and because you can't endure the criticism you're receiving and then cashing in in order to make a lot of money is not a good resume with which to run for president of the United States. She was a calamitous candidate in October of 2008. We've never seen poll numbers for ... any national candidate decline as fast as they did for Sarah Palin. The more the American people know her, the more unacceptable she became and that trend's going to continue."

The True Face Of Fascism...

From The NY Times:

WASHINGTON — Top Bush administration officials in 2002 debated testing the Constitution by sending American troops into the suburbs of Buffalo to arrest a group of men suspected of plotting with Al Qaeda, according to former administration officials.

Some of the advisers to President George W. Bush, including Vice President Dick Cheney, argued that a president had the power to use the military on domestic soil to sweep up the terrorism suspects, who came to be known as the Lackawanna Six, and declare them enemy combatants.

Mr. Bush ultimately decided against the proposal to use military force.

A decision to dispatch troops into the streets to make arrests has few precedents in American history, as both the Constitution and subsequent laws restrict the military from being used to conduct domestic raids and seize property.

The Fourth Amendment bans “unreasonable” searches and seizures without probable cause. And the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 generally prohibits the military from acting in a law enforcement capacity.

MSNBC Prez On Lou Dobbs/Birther Nutters: “It’s racist. Just call it for what it is.”

MSNBC president on Lou Dobbs' 'birther' coverage:

“It’s racist,” said Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC. “It’s racist. Just call it for what it is.”
From Brian Selzter via the NY Times Decoder:

The conspiracy theorists who have claimed for more than a year that President Obama is not a United States citizen have found receptive ears among some mainstream media figures in recent weeks.

Despite ample evidence to the contrary, the country’s most popular talk radio host, Rush Limbaugh, told his listeners Tuesday that Mr. Obama “has yet to have to prove that he’s a citizen.” Lou Dobbs of CNN said that Mr. Obama should do more to dispel the claims. Larry King, also of CNN, asked guests about it, and other media types, including the MSNBC hosts Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow, merrily mocked the controversy. NBC News even did a segment on the subject.

[snip]

“This smear was thoroughly debunked during the election,” said Eric Burns, the president of Media Matters for America, a liberal media monitoring organization.

Remarkably, there is even a reference to Mr. Obama’s birth in the “Births, Marriages, Deaths” column of The Honolulu Advertiser newspaper on Aug. 13, 1961. Still, the claims about Mr. Obama’s citizenship persist among a small but vocal group, essentially portraying Mr. Obama as a foreigner who has managed to conceal his origins for nearly five decades.

“It’s racist,” said Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC. “It’s racist. Just call it for what it is."

[snip]

A lot of journalists “live with this issue; we get e-mails, we get asked about it,” Brian Williams, the anchor of the “NBC Nightly News,” said on Wednesday’s broadcast.

He showed an excerpt from the YouTube video in a segment about the birthers that he said were “spreading lies” about Mr. Obama.

“So many conspiracy theories, so little time,” he concluded.

Now, after first emailing Dobbs to end the coverage, CNN Pres says the coverage is legitimate?

From Media Matters: Dobbs 2, CNN 0: CNN Pres. Klein Calls Birther Coverage "Legitimate"

From a July 25 Los Angeles Times article:

CNN/U.S. President Jon Klein told staffers of "Lou Dobbs Tonight" on Thursday that the controversy regarding the legitimacy of President Obama's birth certificate -- a topic Dobbs has avidly pursued on the air -- is a "dead" story.

But in an interview, the cable news chief left open the possibility that Dobbs may continue to raise questions about why the president has not produced a long-form birth certificate. The absence of such a record has spawned rumors that Obama was not born in the United States, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.

"He's got more than 30 years as a television journalist, and I trust him, as I trust all our reporters and anchors, to exercise their judgment as various stories evolve," Klein said of Dobbs, whose daily CNN program is a mix of news and opinion.

"Certainly if there are future news pegs, then we have to take that story as it comes," he added.

Who's in charge at CNN? Klein capitulates, allows Dobbs' birther coverage to continue:

Apparently contradicting a statement he reportedly made the day before pronouncing the birther story seemingly "dead," CNN president Jonathan Klein has reportedly said that CNN would allow Lou Dobbs to continue airing conspiracy theories about President Obama's birth certificate.

Also from Media Matters: Captain Lou And The Birther Brigade:

Leave it to Lou Dobbs: If there's a right-wing conspiracy theory out there floating around on the Internets, he'll latch onto it like a pit bull. He may be past his prime, but he just won't let go. It must be tough for CNN to look on while Dobbs discredits "the most trusted name in news," one wild claim at a time. If there's a hook to the conspiracy even tacitly involving the immigration issue, well, you've just made Dobbs' day.

How can we forget his preoccupation with conspiracy theories about purported government plans for a "North American Union" between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada? Or his promotion of the nutty conspiracy that Mexicans plan to reconquer the American Southwest?

Over the past two weeks, however, Dobbs took things even further, pushing one of the most ludicrous conspiracy theories of the right-wing fringe: the notion that the authenticity of President Obama's birth certificate is in doubt.

Weekly Presidential Youtube-Radio Address: Health "Insurance" Reform (7/25/09)

The President takes on the James DeMint's of the GOP in this weeks address on health "insurance" reform:

"Now I know there are those who are urging us to delay reform. And some of them have actually admitted that this is a tactic designed to stop any reform at all. Some have even suggested that, regardless of its merits, health care reform should be stopped as a way to inflict political damage on my Administration. I’ll leave it to them to explain that to the American people.

What I’m concerned about is the damage that’s being done right now to the health of our families, the success of our businesses, and the long-term fiscal stability of our government."

From WhiteHouse.org:

Full Text:
I recently heard from a small business owner from New Jersey who wrote that he employs eight people and provides health insurance for all of them. But his policy goes up at least 20 percent each year, and today, it costs almost $1,400 per family per month – his highest business expense besides his employees’ salaries. He’s already had to let two of them go, and he may be forced to eliminate health insurance altogether.

He wrote, simply: "I am not looking for free health care, I would just like to get my premiums reduced enough to be able to afford it."

Day after day, I hear from people just like him. Workers worried they may lose their coverage if they become too sick, or lose their job, or change jobs. Families who fear they may not be able to get insurance, or change insurance, if someone in their family has a pre-existing condition. And small business owners trying to make a living and do right by the people they employ.

These are the mom and pop stores and restaurants, beauty shops and construction companies that support families and sustain communities. They’re the tiny startups with big ideas, hoping to become the next Google or Apple or HP. And, as shown in a new report released today by the White House Council of Economic Advisers, right now they are getting crushed by skyrocketing health care costs.

Because they lack the bargaining power that large businesses have and face higher administrative costs per person, small businesses pay up to 18 percent more for the very same health insurance plans – costs that eat into their profits and get passed on to their employees.

As a result, small businesses are much less likely to offer health insurance. Those that do tend to have less generous plans. In a recent survey, one third of small businesses reported cutting benefits. Many have dropped coverage altogether. And many have shed jobs, or shut their doors entirely.

This is unsustainable, it’s unacceptable, and it’s going to change when I sign health insurance reform into law.

Under the reform plans in Congress, small businesses will be able to purchase health insurance through an "insurance exchange," a marketplace where they can compare the price, quality and services of a wide variety of plans, many of which will provide better coverage at lower costs than the plans they have now. They can then pick the one that works best for them and their employees.

Small businesses that choose to insure their employees will also receive a tax credit to help them pay for it. If a small business chooses not to provide coverage, its employees can purchase high quality, affordable coverage through the insurance exchange on their own. Low-income workers – folks who are more likely to be working at small businesses – will qualify for a subsidy to help them cover the costs.

And no matter how you get your insurance, insurance companies will no longer be allowed to deny you coverage because of a pre-existing condition. They won’t be able to drop your coverage if you get too sick or lose your job or change jobs. And we’ll limit the amount your insurance company can force you to pay out of your own pocket.

To view the new report and learn more about how health insurance reform will help small businesses, go to WhiteHouse.gov, and send us your questions and comments – we’ll answer as many of them as we can later this week.

Over the past few months, I’ve been pushing hard to make sure we finally address the need for health insurance reform, which has been deferred year after year, decade after decade. And today, after a lot of hard work in Congress, we are closer than ever before to finally passing reform that will reduce costs, expand coverage, and provide more choices for our families and businesses.

It has taken months to reach this point, and once this legislation passes, we’ll need to move thoughtfully and deliberately to implement these reforms over a period of several years. That is why I feel such a sense of urgency about moving this process forward.

Now I know there are those who are urging us to delay reform. And some of them have actually admitted that this is a tactic designed to stop any reform at all. Some have even suggested that, regardless of its merits, health care reform should be stopped as a way to inflict political damage on my Administration. I’ll leave it to them to explain that to the American people.

What I’m concerned about is the damage that’s being done right now to the health of our families, the success of our businesses, and the long-term fiscal stability of our government. I’m concerned about hard working folks who want nothing more than the security that comes with knowing they can get the care they need, when they need it. I’m concerned about the small business owners who are asking for nothing more than a chance to seize their piece of the American Dream. I’m concerned about our children and grandchildren who will be saddled with deficits that will continue piling up year after year unless we pass reform.

This debate is not a political game for these Americans, and they cannot afford to keep waiting for reform. We owe it to them to finally get it done – and to get it done this year.

Thank you.

Southern Poverty Law Center Demands CNN Fire Lou Dobbs

CNN President, Jon Klein, has already emailed Lou Dobbs declaring the 'birther' subject 'dead,' -- which he basically ignored during his next show -- but now, the President of the Southern Poverty Law Center has called on Klein to remove Dobbs from the air permanently.

Letter via HuffPo
:

Dear Mr. Klein,

As an important and respected news organization, CNN has a special responsibility to ensure the accuracy of its reporting. We have written to you before about our concern that Lou Dobbs repeatedly fails to live up to this standard in his reporting on immigration. Now, Mr. Dobbs is again trading in falsehoods and racist conspiracy theories, questioning President Obama's American citizenship.

On the July 15 edition of "Lou Dobbs Tonight," Mr. Dobbs questioned the official certificate provided by the president and the State of Hawaii and complained that President Obama has not made public the "original document." On his radio program, Mr. Dobbs has repeatedly questioned the president's fitness for office, demanding he "show the documents" and, at one point, jokingly suggesting President Obama may be "undocumented."

The truth about the president's birth is not in dispute. It has been verified by Factcheck.org, among many other serious news organizations, and his official birth documents have been made public. CNN itself has repeatedly reported on the falsity of the claims of the "birthers," and the network's esteemed legal analyst, Jeffrey Toobin, recently called those claims "a joke." As you know, even Mr. Dobbs' frequent fill-in anchor, Kitty Pilgrim, debunked the birthers on the July 17 edition of Mr. Dobbs' own CNN show. The fact that Mr. Dobbs suggests otherwise on CNN -- while real CNN reporters tell the truth -- is both deplorable and an embarrassment to all serious journalists.

As he has in several other instances, Mr. Dobbs, in taking up the birthers' claims, is adopting an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory that originated on the radical racist right. As Gawker.com has reported, this particular conspiracy theory was first developed by an open anti-Semite and circulated by right-wing extremists who cannot accept the fact that a black man has been elected president of the United States. Among its adherents was neo-Nazi James von Brunn, the alleged murderer of a security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., this June. Von Brunn had helped spread the birthers' claims on the Internet and attacked the "dishonest & conspiratorial Media" for not taking them up.

This is not the first time Mr. Dobbs has pushed racist conspiracy theories or defamatory falsehoods about immigrants. We wrote you in 2007 to bring to your attention his utterly false claim that 7,000 new cases of leprosy had appeared in the United States in a recent three-year period, due at least in part to immigrants. (The real number, according to official statistics, was about 400. Mr. Dobbs took his spurious information from the late right-wing extremist, Madeleine Cosman.) In addition, Mr. Dobbs has reported as fact the so-called Aztlan conspiracy, which claims that undocumented Mexican immigrants are part of a plot to "reconquer" the American Southwest. He has suggested there is something to a related conspiracy theory that claims the governments of Mexico, the United States and Canada are secretly planning to merge into the "North American Union." He has falsely claimed that "illegal aliens" fill one third of American prison and jail cells. And Mr. Dobbs has routinely disparaged, on CNN's air, those who have had the integrity to point out the falsity of these and similar claims.

Respectable news organizations should not employ reporters willing to peddle racist conspiracy theories and false propaganda. It's time for CNN to remove Mr. Dobbs from the airwaves.

Sincerely,
J. Richard Cohen
President

CNN Prez to Lou Dobbs: STFU w/ Your 'Birther' Conspiracy Bullshit

It seems CNN's President has had enough of Lou Dobbs' birther conspiracies and in no uncertain terms has told Loud the subject is "dead."

From Media Matters:

CNN President Emails Dobbs Pronouncing Birther Story "Dead," But Lou Won't Let It Go

After CNN President Jon Klein reportedly emailed information to the staff of CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight that Klein said shows the "story" about President Obama's birth certificate "is dead," host Lou Dobbs noted that evidence -- which was a statement by the Hawaii Health Department that in 2001, paper records were replaced by electronic records -- on air as Klein instructed, but then asked CNN contributor Roland Martin: "When this could be dispelled so quickly, and -- and simply by producing [the birth certificate], why not do it?"

[snip]

From Klein's July 23 email, obtained by TVNewser:

----- Original Message -----

From: Klein, Jon (CNN)
Sent: Thu Jul 23 19:00:44 2009
Subject: Important re birth certificate

I asked the political researchers to dig into the question "why couldn't Obama produce the ORIGINAL birth certificate?"

This is what they forwarded. It seems to definitively answer the question. Since the show's mission is for Lou to be the explainer and enlightener, he should be sure to cite this during your segment tonite. And then it seems this story is dead - because anyone who still is not convinced doesn't really have a legitimate beef.

Thx

*In 2001 - the state of Hawaii Health Department went paperless.*Paper documents were discarded*The official record of Obama's birth is now an official ELECTRONIC record Janice Okubo, spokeswoman for the Health Department told the Honolulu Star Bulletin, "At that time, all information for births from 1908 (on) was put into electronic files for consistent reporting," she said.

Dobbs Responds: "limp-minded, lily-livered lefties"

Via HuffPo:

Today, Dobbs hit back at his critics, calling them "limp-minded, lily-livered lefties" who attacked him only because he "had the temerity to inquire as to where the birth certificate was and why the president of the United States would not turn over that birth certificate to the national media and end the noise."

Pentagon Pissed At Fox "news" Analyst's Call For Taliban To Kill Kidnapped Soldier

Remember how Fox "news" analyst said the Taliban should just go ahead and kill the kidnapped American soldier and how pissed Rachel Maddow was?

Well, she isn't the only one. The Pentagon is furious as well.

CNN's Lou Dobbs Problem

It's one thing for Fox "news" to be spewing this nonsense. It's quite another when one of CNN's headliners does it. Lou Dobbs should be fired over this. Well, he should have been fired long ago for his racist, xenophobic, anti-immigration rhetoric (see here, here, here, here, here here, here, here, & here), but that's an entirely different can of worms. This is 9/11 truthers territory we're talking about and it's on CNN!!

From Media Matters:

Washington, DC -- Today, Media Matters for America called further attention to Lou Dobbs' continued use of his CNN show and his radio show to legitimize conspiracy theories about President Obama's birth certificate. Dobbs' mainstreaming of such claims comes even as other CNN figures -- including his stand-in, Kitty Pilgrim -- have repeatedly and resoundingly debunked them, calling them "nutty" and "ludicrous."

"CNN has a very serious Lou Dobbs problem on its hands," said Eric Burns, President of Media Matters. "All eyes are on CNN to see how the network will handle a host who has clearly become a stain on its journalistic credibility."

Media Matters released the following web video today on Dobbs' undermining the network's credibility:

Even CNN's Rick Sanchez had on FactCheck.org's Viveca Novak to corroborate the Obama's birth certificate's authenticity. He even read from Obama's birth announcement in a Hawaii paper -- live on the air -- for God's sake.

From DKTV:
Jon Stewart rollicks his way through an annihilation of the birther’s craziness, including the complete and total destruction of whatever morsels of credibility Lou "mean old man" Dobbs has left:
Here's Brian William from last night's newscast.

From HuffPo:

Anchor Brian Williams addressed the already-disproved claim that President Obama is not an American citizen last night in his Nightly News broadcast. The issue has become resurgent after a tape of a woman angrily questioning a GOP Congressman about the issue at a town hall spread like wildfire across the internet.

Williams called it "the question that won't seem to go away for President Obama even though it's been answered," and noted that it's become "a kind of conspiracy theory."

NBC's legal correspondent Pete Williams reported that despite being debunked, the conspiracy theory is "becoming a staple of blogs and conservative talk radio."
