I saw the story Tapper posted yesterday and thought to myself, there he goes again; making a story up out of thin air, acting as if something news is being reported and it is he, the great Jake Tapper, who has sniffed out the scoop.
Now maybe this is the first Tapper has heard about Obama's upbringing, or maybe his Jewishness got the better of him (he'll knwo why I'm saying this) in a moment of exhaustion -- it was a long flight to the heart if Islam after all -- but all I see is a failed attempt to create the news (as opposed to just reporting about it).
It's as if someone tweeted him talking point, with the 'controversy" pre-bolded for him, and ran with it becuase hey, it's sounded big. Of course that is just my take -- which Jake can't blame others for making when he's such a pro at it.
Sorry, Jake. You made an ass of yourself on this one and all you did was feed the paranoid beast of the Permanent Republican Majority.
From DKos' Little:
ABC News' Jake Tapper and Sunlen Miller report: The other day we heard a comment from a White House aide that never would have been uttered during the primaries or general election campaign.
During a conference call in preparation for President Obama's trip to Cairo, Egypt, where he will address the Muslim world, deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Denis McDonough said "the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to -- or before he's been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world -- you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father -- obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago."
Tapper is up to some really ugly stuff here, pretending that something new has been revealed about the president. It hasn't, of course. The statement that Obama "experienced Islam on three continents" - is factual and well known, as Obama lived in Muslim countries when he was a kid....
